Sanding back to clean timber
Grey, lichen spotted boards are sanded back to clean timber with a floor sander and edger. Nails and screws are re-set first and any split or rotten boards replaced with matching timber so the whole deck comes up evenly rather than in patches.
Oiling for the Perth sun
Two coats of a quality decking oil where the timber is thirsty, one where it is not. Perth summer sun does the most damage to bare timber, so oiling before December gives the best protection. A deck in full sun needs oiling every 12 to 18 months; a covered one goes longer.
Repairs while we are there
